"Preparing Excellence"
The middle school band program aims to develop and prepare students for band at the high school level. Students are challenged to play their instruments well, develop music literacy, make connections between music, art, other academic subjects, their life experiences, and their culture. Ultimately, it is the goal of this program to encourage students to love the music making process, love others, and love themselves.
Advanced Band-8th grade
The major emphasis of this course is on developing musicianship through the study of band literature. Students will extend the physical skills necessary to play simple band music accurately and with good tone quality, will improve skills in reading musical notation, will increase understanding of the musical elements, and will study and play music of many styles, cultures, and historical periods. Participation in designated performances is required to satisfy basic objectives of this course.
Concert band-7th grade
The major emphasis of this course is to continue to learn to play a band instrument, to develop skills necessary to play beginning-level music accurately with good tone quality, to read musical notation, and to provide performance opportunities. Participation in designated performances is required to satisfy basic objectives of this course.
Beginning Band-6th grade
The emphasis of this course is to build a solid musical foundation. This includes developing musical literacy, proper playing technique, and learning sound rehearsal strategies. This band performs in three major concerts: winter, spring, and district concert. This band meets all together once a week and then is split between insturment families the other four days of the week.
